Brass Band Treize Etoiles
Founded in 1973, Brass Band
Treize Etoiles is comprised of musicians chosen from the best village bands
in Valais (Southern Switzerland) and is divided into two different bands :
the A and the B-Band. Both take their name from the 13 stars on the flag of
Valais.
The A-Band of Brass Band
Treize Etoiles, conducted since 1977 by Géo-Pierre Moren, is one of the most
decorated bands in Switzerland, as they have won the Swiss National
Championship eleven times (in 1978, 1979, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1998, 2000,
2001, 2004, 2006 and 2008), the Swiss Open Contest eight times (in 1990,
1991, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2008), the European Open Contest
three times (in 2000, 2001 and 2003), the Swiss Entertainment Contest three
times (in 1992, 1996 and 1998), the “Grand Prix” of Birmenstorf three times
(in 1991, 1995 and 1997), as well as the first broadcasted contest “Swiss
Brass”. Moreover, Brass Band Treize Etoiles was awarded “Swiss Band of the
Year” in 1996, 1998 and 2001.
The band has also obtained
an impressive number of places of honour, such as 2nd place at the Dutch
Open Contest in 1993 and a 5th place at the "All England Masters
International" in 2006. Brass Band Treize Etoiles has taken part in the
European Brass Band Championship ten times and placed third in 1980, 1999
and 2001, and fourth in 1979 and 1990. The Band has been crowned as World
Champions at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade (NL) in July 2005.
Brass Band Treize Etoiles, in addition to their different competition
activities, has given numerous concerts in Valais, of course, but also in
nearly all Swiss Cantons, as well as abroad. They have had the opportunity
to accompany well-known soloists (e.g. Steven Mead, Martin Winter, Roger
Webster, Alan Morrison, Roland Szentpàli, Håkan Hardenberger) and to work
with famous conductors such as M. Richard Evans, Major Peter Parkes, M.
Howard Snell and actually M. James Gourlay.

Les Dalton Quartet
This
ensemble was founded in the spring of 2008 by four friends with a passionate
love of brass music. The members are Stéphane Rudaz and Cédric Cotter on
cornet, Guillaume Stalder on alto horn and Gilles Rocha on baritone and
euphonium. They are all also members of the Brass Band 13 Etoiles and other
bands.
The
ensemble’s career started with regular participation at various regional
competitions in Switzerland. They won, amongst others, the canton of Valais
quartet championships in 2006 and 2007. They are coached for these events by
Géo-Pierre Moren.
The
Dalton Quartet are now more interested in developing their concert
activities, and have built up a varied repertoire, with something for all
tastes.

The Concordia band in Vétroz
With
around 40 brass enthusiasts as members, this brass band appears at cultural
and religious events in their village. They are members of the ACMV
(Association of music ensembles in the canton of Valais) and the FFDCC
(Federation of centrist Christian Democrat bands). The Concordia will
celebrate its centenary in 2007. It was always a dynamic society, but the
arrival of their present conductor, Géo-Pierre Moren and their honorary
president, Daniel Vergère gave them an extraordinary new impetus.
Always seeking to improve, the Concordia has participated very successfully
in many local and federal festivals and competitions in the Excellence
category. These successes have led to them being chosen to represent
Switzerland in international competitions. This is achieved by the great
care which the band takes to form future generations of players. To motivate
youngsters, they created, together with bands from Plan-Conthet and Grône,
the junior soloist and quartet championships of the canton of Valais (CVSJQ).
The participation of more than 400 young people every year proves the
success of this formula, which has become an essential stepping stone in a
young musician’s career.
Finally, to promote brass music in general, the ensemble commissions a new
work every year from a local composer.
