Composition
Gilles Rocha’s first experience as a composer
was in 2007, at the National Championships for Brass Soloists and Quartets
in Orsières. The champion-to-be played a piece by the unknown « Canadian »
composer: Thomas Stephen Kerr. Gilles wanted to remain anonymous in order to
evaluate the real feelings of the audience towards his piece. It is much
easier to ask people what they think of a new « Canadian » composition, than
to ask them whether they like your own music !
Gilles is keen to respond to any offers of
composition commissions, whether from professionals or amateurs, and for any
type of instrument or ensemble. He likes nothing better than a new
challenge !
